KUALA LANGAT, Nov 19 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari wants all local authorities to focus on upgrading basic facilities for the people next year.

He said they should allocate at least 10 per cent of their financial reserves to this end, providing comfort to the public.

"In addition to what has been budgeted by all local authorities, I also want (a minimum of) 10 per cent of their savings used to upgrade facilities, including community halls, public halls, and other amenities.

"This adjustment needs to be made because basic infrastructure needs to be strengthened so the people can not only enjoy the achieved modernisation but are also comfortable in using existing public facilities," Amirudin said.

He was speaking to the press after officiating the celebration of the state-level World Town Planning Day at Dewan Jubli Emas, Kampung Endah, yesterday.

Earlier, during his speech at the opening ceremony, the Menteri Besar said infrastructure development like road quality, drains, streetlights, road accessories, public halls, and community centres, would be the focus next year.

"This is something we have been planning as Selangor is a focal point for people from all corners of the world, a metropolitan state with a diverse population background, so it is important to maintain living standards.

"Urban planning also needs to constantly adapt to current changes, including demographic conditions, to align with local needs," he said.

The state-level celebration of the World Town Planning Day began on Friday (November 16) and runs until today at Kampung Endah, featuring various activities, including low carbon day, a Javanese food festival, and the inauguration of Smart Desa.
