State rep calls for tourism infrastructure maintenance, help rural communities generate income

SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — The public and tourism facilities in the Dusun Tua state constituency require attention after experiencing severe damage due to the heavy floods in 2021.

Its state assemblyman, Datuk Johan Abd Aziz, said action needs to be expedited, as there are several famous tourist locations capable of attracting many visitors, thereby boosting Selangor's economy.

During the 2024 Selangor Budget debate in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today, he said most of the areas are no longer operational as before, affecting businesses' income.

"The number of visitors increases on weekends, school holiday seasons, and festive seasons. The proximity to the city centre also encourages many to visit.

"I urge the state government to prioritise upgrading tourism and public facilities, which will help commercialise the area and further enhance the rural community's economy," Johan said.

From December 17 to December 19, 2021, higher-than-usual rainfall resulted in deep floods in many locations in Selangor, with Dusun Tua among the most severely affected.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had estimated around RM1.4 billion in losses following the floods, including approximately RM400 million for infrastructure repairs.
