SHAH ALAM, July 5 – Road repairs on more than 100 roads in the state are on track and are scheduled to complete by the end of the month.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said the repairs done under the Mega Road Resurfacing Project, which commenced last month with a budget of RM50 million, are progressing smoothly and have reached a completion rate of 25 per cent.

"The project covers roads under the local authorities, Public Works Department, Irrigation and Drainage Department, as well as district authorities. Phases one and two are nearly completed.

"We are now implementing phases three to five. All roads undergo repairs as recommended by the committee. Priorities are given to patching up potholes before resurfacing the roads," he explained.

During an inspection of the road-widening works on Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari near Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Perdana, Izham said the project contractor is also responsible for supervising the maintenance work on the respective roads.

He said the state government has also allocated an additional RM15 million to conduct road condition assessments and register new routes.

"Out of the allocated amount, RM10 million is for further assessment of roads under local authorities, while RM5 million is allocated for registering new roads with the Malaysian Road and Information System (MARRIS)," he elaborated.

Since June 2, extensive road repair works covering a distance of 94.9 kilometres have been carried out in nine districts to improve road conditions, enhance road safety, and reduce accidents.

To improve the efficiency of road maintenance, the road damage complaint system has been expanded to Facebook, in addition to the existing use of Twitter and the state road maintenance application operated by Infrasel Sdn Bhd (Infrasel).

By responding to public complaints, Infrasel has carried out over 39,000 road repair works since 2021, whereby potholed roads have been repaired within 24 hours to ensure the comfort and safety of road users.
