SHAH ALAM, March 16 —
A syariah-compliant Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan) will be offered to six million eligible recipients in the state beginning April, says Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.
The state executive councillor for industry and trade said that the takaful plan of the free general insurance scheme is subject to the terms and conditions of the service agreement with the four appointed takaful service providers, namely Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, Takaful Ikhlas General Berhad and Takaful Malaysia Berhad.
“The state government will provide an option between conventional or takaful plans. But when it is enforced in April, if some of them register for the syariah plan, they will receive two plans. However, eventually, we will ensure that they will receive either or.
“To date, a total of 3.8 million people in the state have registered for the insurance scheme and we have about seven more months to reach (number of recipients),” he said.
Teng was answering on behalf of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari to a question from Taman Medan state assemblyman Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.
Teng said that the state government considers all views and suggestions for improvements to the Insan programme.
“This is to ensure that everyone in Selangor can benefit from this insurance coverage.
“The state government is also committed to implementing the takaful method for the Insan programme in the near future. However the implementation must go through the procurement process and take into account a number of other factors including the allocation of funds,” he said.
Teng also recommended that eligible recipients from the age of 30-days old to 80 years old sign up for the insurance scheme via the WavPay app as it would allow them to immediately download the certificate on their mobile phones.
Insan is a free group general insurance scheme offered to six million Selangor citizens with a coverage of up to RM10,000 for permanent disability and death due to an accident.
