SHAH ALAM, March 13 — The Klinik Asas Sukan Budak Kampung programme is the best method for the state government to identify and produce new talents who can emerge as professional athletes from among Selangor's residents.
State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the programme, held at Padang Bola Sepak Bukit Rahman Putra in Sungai Buloh, focused on three sports including football, sepak takraw, and netball. Participants were aged between 10 to 17 years of age.
"During the two-day program on Saturday and yesterday, we brought former state athletes to conduct training sessions.
"They included Karishma S Loganathan and Nur Firra Syuhada Hasrin for netball; Khalid Ali, Shahrin Majid and Hardi Jaafar for football, and Farhan Adam and Haziq Hairul Nizam for sepak takraw," he said in a statement.
The Paya Jaras state assemblyman said the event, which is also a continuation of Kejohanan Piala Budak Kampung, is a state government's continuing effort to reach out to the sports community on the grassroots level.
The inaugural Klinik Asas Sukan Budak Kampung was met with an enthusiastic response, with close to 1,000 participants.
Mohd Khairuddin added several more sessions will be organised throughout this year.
