SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — Persatuan Bomba Sukarela Kuang will utilise the RM10,000 aid from the state government to obtain more rescue assets and equipment.
Its secretary Mohd Nazri Mohd Hussein said the equipment include a rescue boat, chainsaw and personal protection equipment.
“With a total of 50 members, we have assisted the firefighters in several rescue activities including floods, dangerous animals or poisonous insects and fallen trees.
“Our members have undergone training with the Fire and Rescue Department, and will act as an early responder in the event of an emergency while waiting for actual rescue from the nearest fire station,” he said when met after the handover ceremony by the 2022 Selangor Community Welfare Standing Committee.
The event was officiated by state executive councillor for community welfare V Ganabatirau.
A total of 85 associations, NGOs and welfare centres received RM2 million in donations under the Dana Sukarelawan Kebajikan programme, the Sinergi Prihatin programme and the Pusat Kebajikan Lestari programme.
Meanwhile, Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Murni Selangor chairman Edward Joseph said the cash aid will be used for several programmes including free eyewear for school-going children.
“This kind of assistance may seem small, especially for those who can afford it, but it is very meaningful for those coming from low-income families as the cost of eyewear is quite expensive,” he said.
