MBSA: No fine for not displaying Jalur Gemilang

SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will not compound business operators for not displaying the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said they are taking a different approach by educating and encouraging business operators to hoist the flags at their premises.

"There are no acts or enactments that allow us to take action but at our level, we encourage it (to fly the Jalur Gemilang) as, after 65 years of independence, everyone should have self-awareness in displaying their appreciation and (patriotism) spirit.

“As with previous practises, MBSA will only send letters to premises owners (reminding them) to display or change old flags to new ones,” he said during the Fly the Jalur Gemilang programme at Dataran Shah Alam here.

He said to a question whether MBSA will follow Ipoh City Council action to issue an RM250 fine to business premises that refuse to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with this year's National Day celebrations.

Zamani said to spread the National Day celebration spirit, the local council has installed Jalur Gemilang flags on 64 vehicles owned by MBSA, government agencies and individuals around Shah Alam.

“The installation of the flags is symbolic with the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign for MBSA level this year.

“We have installed the flags on 64 vehicles belonging to MBSA, police, Road Transport Department (RTD), private hospitals, banks and Grab Food delivery riders,” he said.

The vehicles included motorcycles, cars, 4WD vehicles, buses, lorries, vans and bulldozers.

“We hope this will not spread the patriotic spirit among the MBSA staff but also in the local community so that they will also join to fly the Jalur Gemilang,” he said.
