SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — The Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to promote and uphold the artform of telepuk (gilding)
State executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah said this is part of the state government's efforts to preserve the artform, after finding out there is a telepuk factory in Selangor.
"A study was conducted which revealed a telepuk manufacturing factory in Selangor, and we still keep wooden telepuk frames (sarang telepuk).
"We might use this to create Selangor's identity with modern methods. Currently, discussions are being held, and the MoU with UiTM will be signed this September," he said.
Borhan was speaking at the launch of the books published by Padat, which was officiated by Her Royal Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin at the Raja Tun Uda Library earlier today.
He said the cooperation with the university is per the decree of Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who seeks to uplift Selangor's identity and made into a collection.
"In those days, telepuk was made with the stamping method, which does not last long. So we are looking for a new mechanism that will last longer," Borhan said.
