BALING, July 22 — Members of Selangor Volunteer (SERVE) Rescue will be the first to be sent down to disaster areas including floods and landslides, said state executive councillor for young generation development Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

He said thus far 100 selected members are undergoing fitness training with the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) to ensure they can be efficient when dealing with situations.

"The members are trained and equipped with various skills, in preparation for any untoward incidents that may arise, where they will be capable of handling them which includes helping victims.

"If need be, SERVE members will also be sent to other states where disasters are occurring. Members are recruited by the Selangor Sports Council, with only the best among them selected," Mohd Khairuddin said to SelangorKini.

Previously, SERVE Rescue was known as SERVE Elite, which was established with a RM100,000 allocation by the state government.

Membership is open to locals between the ages of 18 to 45, who are physically fit and not disabled, are literate, and have an interest in volunteer work and community activities.
