SHAH ALAM, May 31 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has demolished an illegally-raised additional structure involving a residential unit in Block 4, Flat UTM, AU3/1, Ampang, earlier today.

In a statement on Facebook, it said the operation on May 25 involved MPAJ's Building and Architecture Department and the Enforcement Department.

"An immediate notice and demolition action was carried out per the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974 following the addition of new structures on the sides and back that are not authorised for multi-storey residential buildings," MPAJ said.

The council added that the additional structures used common property space, which was a violation of the Act, as well as the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) since it is not the absolute right of the owner but shared jointly with other occupants.

"Stratified residences such as flats, apartments and condominiums are bound by Act 757 where plot lots are only limited to the area of the plot purchased.

"The issue of the safety of the surrounding residents must also be taken into account, as the structural addition can disrupt any rescue works by authorities in the event of any disaster such as fire and so on," it said.

Members of the public who wish for more information can contact MPAJ's Building Commissioner Division (COB) at 03-4285 7110.
