SHAH ALAM, May 30 — The Selangor Volunteers (SERVE) Elite squad is now known as SERVE Rescue, which aligns with its function to help and rescue victims when a disaster occurs.
State executive councillor for youth Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the rebranding exercise was agreed upon through discussion with the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM).
"We had a meeting with the Selangor JBPM, and we were told that the word rescue is more suitable and would perhaps make the people feel safer," he said after launching the Selangor XTIV Martial Arts Championship at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, here yesterday.
Mohd Khairuddin said that 100 volunteers had been selected to join SERVE Rescue in November.
"We already have the list of 100 names. The Selangor National Sports Council is currently screening them to ensure only the best and most eligible individuals are chosen for the squad.
"After the screening, the volunteers' names will be forwarded to the Selangor JBPM for a training session," he said.
Previously, Mohd Khairuddin said a total of RM100,000 was allocated to form the SERVE Rescue squad.
