HULU SELANGOR, March 12 — The Selangor government has taken steps to rescue abandoned housing projects within the state in stages.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said many of the projects involved ongoing legal cases supervised by the state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail.

“We will tackle it one by one, but it is not an easy task as some of it involves the liquidator. When it concerns them, the process becomes lengthy and takes longer.

“The list of the abandoned projects is with Rodziah, and from time to time, we will solve it in stages to ensure that the state government can provide the right housing project to the people,” he said at the launching of the Ion Belian Garden housing project here today.

Ion Belian Garden was previously developed by Genting Valley, but it was taken over by NCT Group of Companies (NCT Group) when the project was abandoned for 17 years.

Commenting further, Amirudin said the completion of abandoned housing projects proved that the demand for properties in Selangor was still high and growing.

“There are two important things here. First, I thank the developer who came forward to complete the abandoned project for 17 years. The company had converted the planned bungalow units into affordable terrace houses offering reasonable prices according to the sizes.

“Second, both developers have managed to resolve the abandoned housing project that has impacted more than 199 buyers who were burdened with debts and purchasing costs. This solution proves that the demand for housing in Selangor is still high,” he said.
