PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 — A total of 757 abandoned housing projects, involving about 89,165 housing units, were rehabilitated between December 2022 and July 2023, with a gross development value (GDV) of RM63.27 billion.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu attributed the success to efforts by the Task Force on Sick and Abandoned Private Housing Projects (TFST) set up under the ministry.

She said that from January 1 to July 31, 2023, 305 projects, comprising 35,468 private housing units, were rehabilitated, with a GDV valued at RM23.46 billion.

“The rehabilitated projects include 286 projects that have obtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance, 14 projects that were previously delayed but have resumed smoothly, and five abandoned projects,” she said in a statement today.

Aiman Athirah said the success achieved under the TFST’s efforts demonstrates the commitment and intervention of the Madani Government in ensuring ”sick” projects are rehabilitated, completed, and delivered to buyers.

She said in July this year, the National Housing Department identified 231 delayed housing projects, 382 sick projects, and 114 abandoned projects.

Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said the ministry, following complaints from buyers, has identified several projects that were removed from the list of abandoned projects, but have yet to be completed with the buyers having not received their respective units or the promised return of deposits and compensation.

“The TFST team is conducting investigations and checking with the local government authorities and liquidators, and will also conduct site visits to verify the current status of these projects.

“This is to enable further consideration before the involved projects are re-included in the existing statistics of abandoned projects,” she added.
