SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — The Selangor government has received over 9,000 applications to restore flood-battered homes, says Rodziah Ismail.

The state executive councillor for housing said out of the total, the state had assessed more than 3,000 requests as of last week.

“The evaluation process involves various agencies including local councils, the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).

“We expect for it to complete by the end of the month and the Menteri Besar will announce the final figure by March,” said Rodziah, adding that the assessment report is filed weekly.

Rodziah had also suggested that the assistance for home restoration should be given in cash to the homeowners instead of repair works being offered by the Federal government.

“The state government is not able to go from one home to another, and the cash aid would be able to expedite the restoration process,” she said.

On February 3, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said that 10,510 homes damaged in the December floods last year would be restored while 44 others would be rebuilt.
