Kampung Bunga Raya residents offered Rumah Selangorku houses under Smart Rent scheme

SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — A total of 118 longhouse residents of Kampung Bunga Raya were offered Rumah Selangorku and residences under the Smart Rent Scheme, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu.

He added that the decision was a short-term measure to resolve the settlement issue involving the residents of the area which has been going on for the past 30 years.

"The Menteri Besar is concerned with this issue even though land acquisition does not involve the State Government. He wants me to handle it immediately. So, I arranged a meeting with the residents to find both short, and long term solutions.

"As a result of the discussion with the residents, who were also joined by the Selangor Housing and Real Estate Board, we agreed to offer Rumah Selangorku and the Smart Sewa Scheme residence as a temporary settlement.

"The State Government will continue to help solve this issue completely. I hope the residents can have a good discussion," he said after holding a meeting with the residents at the state administration center here today.

Rumah Panjang Kampung Bunga Raya is a temporary settlement for more than 90 families that were relocated in 1993, following the completion of the  Dahlia housing project in Section U5.

At that time, the state government asked the residents to move to the long house as a temporary settlement which is land owned by the state government before promising to provide a new settlement.

However, recently, residents were surprised that the longhouse area had been sold to a private developer. The company then ordered residents to evacuate without providing any alternative solutions.
