SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — The Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) for Adolescents which focuses on the individuals aged 12 to 17 years old in the state is expected to start next month, says Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
The state executive councillor for public health said the programme which aims to increase the vaccination rate among the group will be carried out after the Selvax mobile unit (Selvax mobile) programme has ended.
“We have received encouraging responses from private schools such as tahfiz institutions and this has helped to expedite the vaccination process among the students.
“Selvax for teenagers also will be open for the drop-out students. They can come and participate in the programme,” she told SelangorKini.
Dr Mariah said since the Selvax for Adolescents programme will provide Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine to its recipients, any parent who wishes to inoculate their kids with the vaccine are also welcome to participate in the programme.
“The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) for Adolescents is providing the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, hence, should they want to opt for a different vaccine, they can participate in our programme. However, it all depends on their decision,” she said.
On October 7, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced that the Selvax programme will be expanded to the teenagers, involving some 150,000 doses after being granted permission from the Health Ministry.
