Improved drainage system ends Pandan Indah’s 20-year flood woes

SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — The flashfloods situation in Taman Kencana, Pandan Indah, which has been ongoing for almost 20 years, has come to an end after a one-kilometre drainage upgrade project in the area was completed last month.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim said the work that costs a total of RM1.2 million had begun last year.

“Hopefully with the completion of this drain, it will solve the flashfloods situation in the area and would offer some relief to the Pandan Indah, especially those in Taman Kencana.

“I would like to thank the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) as well as the Public Works Department (JKR) for their cooperation from the start of discussion to its completion,” he said via Facebook.

Izham said that the upgrading project started from Kampung Cheras Baru until Jalan Bunga Raya, Taman Kencana, in Pandan Indah.

On November 22 last year, Izham had instructed the JKR and MPAJ to take immediate action to address the flashfloods in Kampung Pandan.

This was following inspections which found that the drain and ditch at the flooded area were not able to contain a large amount of rainwater during heavy downpours.
