Flash flood on PLUS: Loke calls for contingency plan, study into incident

SEREMBAN, March 6 — A flash flood on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) that caused traffic congestion highlights the need for a contingency plan and a comprehensive study, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The Seremban MP said the situation requires immediate action from the highway operator to ensure the infrastructure can cope with changing weather patterns and nearby construction projects.

“I believe the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and PLUS will certainly take further action. Indeed, there are new projects being explored and developed along parts of the highway.

“If that is the cause of the flash floods, then the developers and contractors must take responsibility and play their respective roles,” he told reporters here today.

Loke said this after presenting contributions totalling RM275,000 to 35 mosques and 160 surau in the Seremban parliamentary constituency and the Chennah state constituency.

Meanwhile, he said flooding on highways not only disrupts the convenience of road users but also poses serious safety risks.

Yesterday, continuous heavy rain caused flash floods at the Nilai rest stop, with water overflowing into dining areas of premises there.

Videos circulating on social media showed muddy water flowing rapidly and inundating parts of the dining area, pedestrian walkways and parking spaces near the rest area.
