SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — The facilities at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) 2.0 in Serdang has been upgraded and would be able to house an additional 6,000 Covid-19 patients.
Previously, the Health Ministry had increased the capacity of beds at MAEPS 2.0 from 3,032 to a total of 6,132 and that the quarantine centre could be further raised to 10,000 beds if required.
“The Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) has informed that the facilities at the PKRC MAEPS in Serdang have been upgraded and would be able to take in 6,000 more patients.
“Special facilities (at the MAEPS 2.0 include) putting up a tent and turn it into an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) as well as providing medical equipment,” said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari in a statement today after chairing a meeting with the Selangor Security Council Committee to discuss the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the state.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the Selangor government had also proposed for more Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) to be established in the state, especially in the Petaling, Hulu Langat and Gombak districts.
He said the CAC plays the role in analysing and classifying the Covid-19 patients to determine whether they should be brought to the quarantine centre or hospital for further treatment.
At present, each district in Selangor has at least one CAC set up.
Yesterday, Selangor saw its record-high daily Covid-19 cases at 3,126 out of the total 5,725 new cases reported nationwide.
The state registered nine deaths out of the 16 fatalities registered nationwide.
