Selangor govt prepared to help MOH as Covid-19 cases on the rise

SHAH ALAM, May 16 — The Selangor government is readily prepared to help the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) in the battle against Covid-19 by providing volunteers and facilities.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said although the management of the Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) is under the jurisdiction of the Health Ministry (MOH) and JKNS, the state administration would try its best to ease the burden of the federal agencies.

“The management of CAC is under the jurisdiction of KKM (MOH) and JKNS. However, the state government has been cooperative to help whenever we can.

“We are in constant communication with the State Health Department and has always tried to accommodate their needs and provide help in terms of our volunteers and facilities,” he said on a Twitter post today.

Amirudin said he had received complaints regarding the Malawati Stadium CAC and have called for a meeting with the JKNS to discuss the matter.

“The state government have set up tents for the (Covid-19) patients and workers outside the CAC.

“I have been informed that the JKNS is facing a shortage of medical staff as they manage MAEPS and CAC and are also receiving patients from other states while being involved with the immunisation programme,” said Amirudin, in reference to the Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.

Earlier, the JKNS had stated that it is planning to increase the capacity for category three Covid-19 patients at the MAEPS PKRC 2.0 to 1,000 beds.

The increase in bed capacity is to support the healthcare system in the Klang Valley following a spike in Covid-19 cases as the quarantine centre at MAEPS was catering to 757 category three patients.
