SHAH ALAM, Jan 13 — The solemnisation of marriage for Muslim couples in Selangor will once again be carried out via video conferencing with approval from the religious authority during the enforced 14-day movement control order (MCO) period beginning today.
Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the future brides and grooms would have to submit the application for a slot from the Islamic Religious District Office or the mosque management.
“The solemnisation ceremony will be witnessed by the marriage registrar at the district office while the bride, groom, wali (custodian) and two witnesses will be at home,” he said in a statement yesterday.
In last April, the marriage solemnisation ceremonies in the state for Muslim couples were carried out online during the MCO period. Prior to this decision, all marriage solemnisation ceremonies in the state had been postponed due to the implementation of the MCO on March 18, 2020.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shahzihan said Jais’ main services, especially involving marriage, divorce and “rujuk” (reconcile), will be conducted online, and the department had set up 10 telephone line counters for the public to call for consultation and to make appointments.
