SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has allowed ‘akad nikah’ (marriage solemnisation) ceremonies to be performed in person again at selected mosques and suraus starting yesterday (October 4).
In an infographic shared by Jais on Facebook, the ceremony can be performed every day only at mosques and suraus that have been given permission to conduct Friday prayers.
Should the ceremony be performed at the Jais office or the District Religious Offices (Paid), the number of guests is limited to only three persons which are the bride, the groom and a wali (guardian).
Meanwhile, for akad nikah at mosques and suraus, those who are allowed to attend include the bride, the groom, wali and three other guests of their choice.
However, a photographer is still not allowed to take part in the ceremony.
Jais also reminded that those who want to attend the akad nikah ceremony must be fully vaccinated and for those who have yet to be complete their vaccination, they are required to do the Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests 72 hours (3 days) before the event.
According to Jais, the marriage registrar head or religious affairs officer can postpone or cancel the ceremony should any of the attendees fail to comply with the conditions.
Previously, Jais had only allowed the akad nikah ceremony to be held in person starting July 1 at the Jais office or Paid, from Monday to Sunday.
Prior to that, the couple must get their appointment date and the number of people allowed during the ceremony is three, consisting of the groom, the bride and the wali.
