SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has allows
solemnisation ceremonies for Muslim couples to be held at all 39 mosques managed by state starting from Monday (January 4) next week.
However, the agency said the permission is subject to several conditions among which no more than five couples are allowed to be married at the mosque in a day between 9am to 5pm.
Also, Jais said that no more than 20 guests are allowed at the ‘akad nikah’ (solemnisation ceremony) including the photographers but excluding the assistant marriage registrar and witnesses.
"Guests from the red zone are not allowed to attend. All attendees must record their attendance, check body temperature, wear a face mask, practise social distancing and comply with the SOP (standard operating procedure) of the Health Ministry and the National Security Council.
“The ceremonies are only allowed to be held in appropriate areas or sections to be decided by the district religious administrative officer or the head imam,” said Jais in its Facebook post today.
Jais said the change of the ‘akad nikah’ location from the red zone outside of Selangor to these mosques is strictly not allowed.
"However for these couples, they can get married at the District Islamic Religious Office (PAID) with a maximum attendance of three individuals only," said Jais.
