SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — The resumption of the death benefit aid in the 2021 Selangor Budget is a sign of the state government's empathy for the needs of the people.

Selangor Socio-economic Development, Social Welfare, and Workers Empowerment Committee chairman V Ganabatirau said the financial aid given under the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) would be able to reduce the burden of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I welcome this good news upon hearing the Selangor Menteri Besar’s announcement of the re-establishment of the death benefit aid.

“I also appreciate that the birthday voucher programme, which had previously replaced the aid, is maintained,” said Ganabatirau who is also co-chairman of Selangor Standing Committee on Non-Islamic Affairs.

The death benefit programme covers eligible and registered senior citizens regardless of their gender, race and religion.

On Friday, during the tabling of the state budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the aid programme through SMUE, which was terminated in May 2019, will be resumed

A total of RM7.5 million is provided to the heirs registered with Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) to receive the assistance of RM500 per person.
