Airline companies agree to reschedule flights for varsity students — MOHE

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Airline companies have agreed to reschedule the flights for varsity students affected by the postponement of university registration process until Dec 31, 2020, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) announced.

In a statement today, MOHE said they had discussed the matter with the airline companies and asked for their consideration to reschedule the flights, especially for students who had already bought their tickets to return to their respective institutions of higher learning (IPT).

“MOHE has taken note of the views from all quarters about the safety of the students following the spike in the Covid-19 cases just days before the date of university registration.

“Therefore, the ministry took the proactive move to discuss with airline companies,” it said.

In a separate statement, the MOHE also said that physical or in-person registration for new students and the return of existing students to all university campuses have been postponed to a date to be announced later following the rising number of positive Covid-19 cases.

It said the student registration, as well as teaching and learning processes, shall be done online until further notice.

“The decision to postpone the physical or in-person registration for the students needs to be done for the safety and wellbeing of all quarters.

“For the students who are already on campus and undergoing academic activities, they can stay on campus. All IPT have been asked to make necessary arrangements for the students,” the statement said.

The MOHE also proposed for all activities involving mass gathering on campus to be postponed.
