SHAH ALAM, May 9 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin conveyed their condolences to the family of the famous Islamic preacher, the late Datuk Ismail Kamus who died about 12.30 am yesterday.
He described the deceased who was born in Hulu Selangor as a devoted preacher during his lifetime who was very committed in his own way and contributed to the development and propagation of Islam in the state and the nation.
“For his contributions, my late father (Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah) bestowed on the late Ismail Kamus the Darjah Kebesaran’ Datuk Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (D.S.S.A) in 1996.
“In 2011, I also consented for the deceased to be awarded the Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1433 Selangor for his services and achievements,” he said in a condolence message posted on the ‘'Selangor Royal Official' social site yesterday.
Sultan Sharafuddin also prayed that the soul of the deceased would be placed among the righteous.
Ismail died at his residence in Ampang, near here, and was buried at the Muslim cemetery in AU4 Lembah Keramat, at 11 am today.
The 72-year-old was previously treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a heart attack and mild stroke, as well as for infection of the lungs.
The deceased was Gombak Setia state assemblyman for one term, from 1999 to 2004; and a former member of the Pas Central Committee.
