SHAH ALAM, SEP 18: The Federal Government is reminded not to violate the Master Agreement signed between State Government and Putrajaya last September 2014.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali revealed that Putrajaya is demanding the State Government to pay 40 percent of the Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) takeover value.
However, he said the demand is unreasonable and contrary to the original deal agreed earlier.
“Why should the State Government pay that amount when it is not stated in the original agreement?
“It becomes more suspicious when Putrajaya does not disclose the actual value and merely gives a 40 percent value. So why should we pay?” he questioned at the Malaysia Baru bersama Dato’ Menteri Besar dialogue session at Sultan Alam Shah Musueum last September 16.
He stressed that the State Government will not compromise to allow any restructuring process and Putrajaya’s trick will eventually deny the rights of the Selangor people.
“Any solution must be in the interest of water consumers and people of Selangor. That was the reason we took over the water services industry from the company privatised by the previous administration.
“As a government with integrity, we will not allow the Selangor citizens’ money to be taken for their benefit,” he said.
The water service industry takeover was done with the aim to restructure it towards a holistic service under one operator.
It is now fully managed by the State Government and regulated under National Water Service Industry Act (WSIA) to provide an efficient, effective, competitive and sustainable water service.
