SHAH ALAM 31st AUGUST: The Sungai Selangor Plants (SSP) 1, 2 and 3 are fully operational again early this morning after a temporary closure yesterday, said Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
The Chief Minister said that water supply can be expected to resume in stages beginning from early afternoon today.
Starting from between 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. last night, he said SSP1 and SSP3 are back in operation after the contamination was brought under control.
Water production at SSP1 and SSP3 had increased the raw water reserve by 5 metres earlier today, between four and six in the morning.
"We can expect clean water supply for the consumers later in the afternoon today in stages," he said in today's press statement.
He also reminded Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) to refrain from using the contamination as an excuse for any recurring regional water disruptions.
"We have traced the origin of the contamination to a waste collection vehicle service centre in Rawang. Preliminary investigations have shown that used diesel oil were being disposed into the drainage system, which flowed into the river nearby," he said.
Thanking the staff members of the agencies involved , Abdul Khalid credited the Department of Environment (DOE), Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selanagor (SPLASH) for the outstanding investigation work.
"Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) have impounded the centre, and a stop-work order has been issues," said Abdul Khalid.
