SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — The Selangor government has spent about RM70 to RM80 million out of the RM551.56 million fund allocated to the Kita Selangor Package 2.0, which was announced on June 9.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the state continuously monitors the progress of the financial aid package that is inclusive of 25 programmes introduced to address the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Some of the programmes have been completed such as the moratorium and waiver of education loans (deferment of loan repayments). While some are still ongoing, such as the food basket programme distributed by state assemblymen.

“Others have yet to kick-off, for example, the free data for the people of Selangor (Selangor Internet Data) will only start in October and is in the registration process,” said Amirudin during a virtual press conference on the current vaccination status and efforts in Selangor, aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook today.

He said every two weeks the Selangor State Economic Planning Committee would update on the disbursement of the funds and the number of people that have benefited from the initiative.

Meanwhile, when asked on a possible third installation of the Kita Selangor package, Amiruddin said the state does not have a plan to introduce another round of financial aid as the state will be revealing the Selangor Budget soon.

“We are closing in on announcing the state budget and are now focussing on that to jump-start the economy. We definitely do not have a plan to introduce another stimulus package or Kita Selangor Package 3.0 for now,” he said.

The Kita Selangor Package 2.0 was revealed to benefit some 1.6 million people in the state affected by the enforced full movement control order (MCO).

Themed ‘Moving Together towards Success’ (Bersama-sama Menuju Kejayaan), the package, which is part of the state’s continuous effort to cushion the social and economic impact from the Covid-19 pandemic, consists of three strategies covering 25 programmes.

The three strategies are namely caring for the people’s welfare and survival, saving the industry, economic sectors, and entrepreneurs in Selangor, and execution of health control to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
