SHAH ALAM, May 14 — Tenants of the People's Housing Project (PPR) can apply for rent deferment if they are affected by the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0.
State executive councillor for urban wellbeing Rodziah Ismail said the application can be made through the Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd (PHSSB) for consideration.
"We are not offering to everyone, whoever wants to postpone can apply. This decision takes into account the ability of 60 per cent of PPR residents to pay rent as usual during the first MCO enforcement in March last year.
"Therefore, we assume that many tenants can afford to pay rent and this is supported through various initiatives implemented to help the people since the spread of Covid-19," she said after presenting Aidilfitri aid to Selangor Digital e-Supply Chain (Seldec) riders at the Shah Alam Convention Center (SACC) on May 12.
Rodziah said a total of 2,050 tenants of PPR in Kota Damansara, Kampung Baru Hicom in Shah Alam, Serendah in Rawang and Council Homes in Bandar Baru Bangi, also received RM100 Aidilfitri vouchers.
In February, tenants in four PPR in Selangor received RM350 vouchers in stages over a six-month period involving financial implications of more than RM800,000.
Previously, PPR tenants enjoyed rent exemption in January, as well as rental deferment in February and March, and three-month rental deferment (January-March) for 450 Smart Rent Scheme tenants.
