SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari calls for all citizens, especially the Tiong Hua community to be patient in facing new challenges following the Covid-19 pandemic.
He is confident that the difficulties in life faced including in celebrating the Chinese New Year under the new norms can be managed.
“This new year is a new challenge for all of us and I believe if we stay patient, we can get through all of this,” he said during the Selangor 2021 Chinese New Year virtual celebration last night.
This is the first time the Tiong Hua community have to celebrate the festivities under the movement control order (MCO) after Covid-19 hit the country in March last year shortly after the lunar festival.
Amirudin in his brief speech also understood their difficulty in celebrating under the need to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that includes social distancing.
“Usually the Tiong Hua community celebrates this festival by returning to their hometown to be with their families and relatives.
“Never thought that it will be very difficult for us to be reunited with our families, (but) we all need to be optimistic in celebrating it,” he said.
Apart from that, Amirudin said he is also determined to continue the various welfare programmes and economic development of the state in order to meet the expectations of all levels of the people.
He also wants all the shortcomings of last year to be examined and overcome so that the state can be developed more efficiently in line with the mission of becoming a Smart State by 2025.
