MB: Minor state portfolio reshuffle next week

By Khairul Azran Hussin

KLANG, Sept 17 — The Selangor government is expected to do a minor reshuffle to the state executive council, which will be announced next week, following the appointment of two new state executive councillors today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state portfolio lineup still needs fine tuning as it has to be discussed with relevant parties first.

“I have about a week to discuss and make arrangements to strengthen the administration lineup to run the state’s agenda.

“Aside from filling up the two empty seats, the changes in the portfolio will only involve one or two matters only, including the portfolio that I hold,” said Amirudin, who currently holds the portfolios for finance, land development and natural resources management, Islamic affairs, and education.

Speaking to reporters after attending the swearing in and oath taking ceremony of the two new executive councillors at the Balairung Seri Istana Alam Shah here today, Amirudin added that he was relieved to have been able to have the portfolios filled up after it was delayed for several months due to the movement control order (MCO).

On March 5, the state government disassociated itself from the Bersatu party after taking into consideration the political dynamic at the Federal level.

This led to the removal of the Selat Klang state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari from his post as the Tourism, Culture, Malay Customs and Heritage Committee chairman.

On July 10, Amirudin announced that he had taken over the Housing and Urban Living portfolio after it was vacated by the Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Haniza Talha due to her expulsion from PKR on June 28.
