SHAH ALAM, July 8 — Three local authorities in Selangor, namely Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), are reviewing the implementation of the biometric system at the open markets to spot the abuse of business licenses.
MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division head Shahrin Ahmad said the system would also be able to help in streamlining the licensing services.
“We are still in discussion on the matter. We hope that the system would be able to improve the efficiency in identifying the misuse of business licenses,” Sharin told SelangorKini when contacted today.
As for MPSJ, the local council is looking at the use of the biometric system to ease business transactions process.
“At the moment, we have set the condition that only license holders are permitted to renew the licenses. This system would be able to bar foreign traders or workers from running their business (at the markets),” said the MPSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid.
Meanwhile, MPS Corporate Communication officer Ahmad Fauzi Ishak explained that the local council is currently mulling the use of the biometric system to track traders that violate the law, as the current method in place involves surveillance and enforcement.
As of July 3, MBPJ as begun using the biometric system at the open markets under its purview.
Selangor is aiming to utilise the system in all of its open markets by 2022 to curb the misuse of licenses, especially among foreign workers.
