MB: Reopening of several remaining sectors in Selangor to be decided today

SHAH ALAM, May 12 — The decision to allow several sectors to resume operations following the restrictions enforced under the Selangor’s modified conditional movement control order (MCMCO) will be finalised today, says the Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this was after discussions were held with district officers and local authorities on the matter.

“Not many sectors were put on hold, mostly involving traders, food operators, and limited recreational activities. Compared to other states, some had allowed about 90 per cent of the sectors to resume operations since May 4.

“We had not done the same because we wanted to see the public reaction towards the reopening of sectors and we did not want to rush it. We also wanted to ensure the smooth operations in the construction sector,” he said when met by the press after the Selangor Drug Prevention Association of Malaysia (Pemadam) Ramadan Sumbangan Kasih ceremony held at the Menteri Besar official residence here today.

Amirudin said companies were also asked to prepare the Covid-19 Infectious Disease Control Action Plan as one of the measures to curb the virus from spreading.

Meanwhile, on the spread of the novel coronavirus at wet markets, Amirudin said the state government is looking into either formulating additional guidelines or tighten the enforcement in the market areas.

He said the decision will be finalised after discussions with the National Security Council and local authorities later today.

“We are open to discussion with the enforcement authorities as we know they are facing challenges. We will not simply give orders,” he added.

On Sunday, the Federal government had enforced the enhanced movement control order at the surrounding areas of the Jalan Othman wet market in Petaling Jaya until May 23, after 26 positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the area.
