SHAH ALAM, March 26 — Putrajaya is bringing oil tankers and Malaysian workers out of the Strait of Hormuz after Iran granted it passage amid tensions along the strategic trade route, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He expressed gratitude to Iran for the move, which has facilitated Malaysia’s management of national assets in the area.
“I want to take the opportunity to thank the Iranian president for granting us passage, and we are bringing Malaysian oil tankers and workers out,” he said in a special address today on the government’s countermeasures amid an impending oil crisis due to the West Asia conflict.
Anwar added that the Strait of Hormuz closure has impacted global oil and gas supplies, which has also impacted Malaysia.
“For now, we are forced to manage effects from the Strait of Hormuz closure, war, and oil and gas supply disruptions, which all affect us.
“However, we are in a far better position due to Petronas’ capabilities thus far,” he explained.
Anwar said the national petroleum company will help keep the country more stable than others, even amid global energy market uncertainties.
