SHAH ALAM, March 25 — Almost 32,000 volunteers have registered for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026, reflecting the public’s strong support and interest in the country’s largest sporting event.
According to data on the SUKMA Selangor 2026 website, badminton drew the highest participation with 2,648 volunteers, followed by indoor volleyball (1,653) and aquatics (1,099).
“As many as 31,838 individuals have expressed interest in becoming part of the volunteer team.
“Thank you for the extraordinary support from everyone who registered as volunteers,” SUKMA Selangor 2026 said on Instagram.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said six times more volunteers had registered for the biennial event than expected.
As of March 8, Selangor had received 30,000 volunteer registrations, far past the initial target of 5,000, reflecting encouraging response from the public, especially from youth.
Selangor will host the 22nd SUKMA from August 15 to 24 with an opening ceremony at the Sepang International Circuit, while the Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 10.
As many as 474 events will be held involving 37 sports, including 10 for Para SUKMA, such as swimming, athletics, badminton, ping pong, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia, and powerlifting.
