Fuel prices in India rise amid West Asia conflicts

NEW DELHI, March 20 — Prices of premium quality petrol and industrial diesel in India rose by nearly 2.30 rupees (RM0.097) per litre and 22 Indian rupees (RM0.93) per litre, respectively, today, confirmed the oil marketing companies.

Xinhua reported that, due to ongoing conflicts in West Asia, the increase in fuel prices took effect immediately.

Costlier industrial diesel would adversely affect various activities, including manufacturing, logistics, and power generation. It would also increase production and transport costs, potentially making everyday products more expensive, according to local media reports.

However, New Delhi played down the rise in the price of premium petrol, describing it as a small increase, as premium petrol was consumed by only two to four per cent of the country's petrol buyers.
