SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will increase the state’s food reserves to three months from the current one month to address potential disruptions in the global supply chain.

Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the initiative will be implemented through the Selangor Food Warehouse programme, which will be strengthened this year to support the needs of the state’s residents.

He said global geopolitical developments, including conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz, could disrupt oil and gas supplies and affect food supply chains.

“The situation could have a major impact on the economy and food supply. We experienced a similar situation during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is why food security must be given serious attention,” he said.

He said this during the PKPS iftar with the media, attended by about 120 guests at Wyndham Acmar Klang yesterday.

Meanwhile, Khairil said PKPS has introduced the PKPS Agribusiness Transformation Plan 2026–2030 (SEED2030) to boost food production in the state.

The plan targets an increase in key commodity production, including palm oil, to 735,000 metric tonnes, representing an increase of about 65 per cent by 2030.

Chicken production is also expected to rise to 20.1 million birds within the same period to ensure sufficient food supply.
