SHAH ALAM, March 3 — An issue with the construction of a new road to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Taman Koperasi Cuepacs in Kajang has been resolved, with the temple management accepting the state government’s original offer.

State executive councillor for Orang Asli and minority affairs Papparaidu Veraman said an agreement was achieved after a meeting of over half an hour with the temple management, aimed at explaining details of the project.

“The meeting was held at my office at 2pm just now. The temple management was represented by the deputy secretary and the treasurer. I explained the real recommendation for the road and how it can help all quarters.

“I think that before this, maybe no one explained this in full to the temple management, so they didn’t understand. After the explanation, they finally agreed and it was resolved,” he told Media Selangor.

Papparaidu added that the construction of the new 383m road will start soon, with the mandate given to the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Previously, local media reported that the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple management in Taman Koperasi Cuepacs had rejected the state government’s offer to build a new road connecting the temple to the main road.

The temple’s deputy chairman Tanabalan Arumugam reportedly said the management rejected the alternative route as it is further away than the previous road.

In early February, the state government recommended a new 7m-wide road to the temple from Jalan Sungai Long.

Papparaidu said the construction of the road is expected to cost RM3.3 million and is seen as the most appropriate solution to end the longstanding conflict and make way for planned development in the area.

The Banting assemblyman said it is an important step to ensure harmony between all quarters, including Taman Desa Baru and Taman Koperasi Cuepacs residents and the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple management.
