Audit follow-up recovers over RM316m for govt

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — The government has successfully collected revenue and secured refunds totalling RM316.68 million through the implementation of audit follow-up actions.

Audit follow-up refers to the authority vested in the Auditor-General to review actions taken by the Federal government, state governments, public authorities, or designated bodies in response to recommendations, comments, or observations made in the Auditor-General’s Report.

According to the Auditor-General’s Report 1/2026 on the Activities of Federal Ministries/Departments/Statutory Bodies and the Management of Federal Government Companies 2024, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today, the collections included penalty claims, outstanding rental payments, Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD), arrears on land leases, as well as duties and tax collections.

Of the RM316.68 million, RM221.52 million was recovered from Federal ministries/departments and Federal government companies, while the remaining RM95.16 million came from state governments, departments, and agencies.

To expedite the resolution of audit issues highlighted in the LKAN, the Auditor-General’s Online Dashboard, known as the Auditor General’s Dashboard (AGD), has been developed and strengthened.

Online audit follow-up through the AGD system has helped ensure that audit issues and related recommendations are systematically tracked and that corrective actions are taken by state government departments, agencies and government-linked companies.

As of December 31, 2025, a total of 286 issues, or five per cent of the 5,686 issues still under action, involved Auditor-General’s Reports from 2016 to series 3/2025.

Federal ministries/departments and Federal government companies were advised to remain committed to implementing corrective measures to address outstanding audit issues.
