KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 23 — Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) continues to strengthen its role in widening access to higher education for Selangor students through the implementation of a Tuition Fee Subsidy, fully supported by the state government.
UNISEL vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Hassan Basri said the RM17.38 million allocation announced by the state government demonstrates its ongoing commitment to ensure more students, especially those from low- and middle-income families, have the opportunity to pursue tertiary studies.
“The implementation of this subsidy reflects the state government’s determination, with 50 per cent of students’ tuition fees fully covered.
“In addition, an extra RM1 million under the University Basic Tuition Assistance (BAYU) programme is expected to benefit around 500 to 600 Selangor students continuing their studies, particularly at UNISEL,” he said at the UNISEL Grand Iftar event at the Bestari Jaya Campus yesterday.
He added that the financial assistance not only eases the burden on students but also contributes to improving education quality and fostering innovation among the university community.
Hassan emphasised that UNISEL will continue to implement its development plans in line with the Selangor government’s aspiration to nurture a competitive workforce prepared to meet future challenges.
On November 14 last year, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the RM17.38 million allocation for the Tuition Fee Subsidy, benefiting 400 Selangor students at UNISEL and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), covering 50 per cent of tuition fees for the September 2026 intake.
