SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will conduct an emergency audit of all mature trees in Section 7 following a tree-fall incident that injured two Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) lecturers when it struck their car.

In a statement, the local council said certified arborists have been appointed to carry out detailed technical inspections.

These will include tree health and structural assessments, root system checks, tree tagging and risk verification, updates to Geographic Information System (GIS) data, and the preparation of professional reports with mitigation recommendations.

"Any trees identified as high risk will be death with immediately, including canopy reduction trimming or preventive felling," it said today.

MBSA said tree risk assessments are conducted based on physical observations, including signs of rot or trunk cracking, unbalanced canopies, pest or disease infestation, abnormal tilting, and soil conditions at the tree base.

Yesterday, it was reported that two UiTM lecturers were injured after a tree fell onto the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in on Persiaran Tun Arshad Ayub, Section 7, here.

The victims were safely extricated, with the 39-year-old woman sustaining injuries to her face and head, and the 42-year-old woman injured around her waist. Both have been sent to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he is giving his full attention to the incident.

MBSA said as an immediate response, it had deployed enforcement officers along Persiaran Tun Arshad Ayub and temporarily closed the road to ensure that monitoring, removal of the fallen tree, and cleaning operations could be carried out in a safe, organised, and controlled manner.

"For public information, regular maintenance work was conducted throughout 2025 along Persiaran Tun Arshad Ayub. This included canopy trimming, branch load reduction, removal of dead trees, and regular visual monitoring of mature trees.

"In total, dozens of trees in the area were trimmed, and dead trees were felled according to technical requirements in early February, prior to the incident."

MBSA said it takes the incident seriously and prioritises the safety and well-being of the public.

"The council will ensure that follow-up actions are carried out carefully, proactively, and in phases, taking into account the interests of all parties."
