PUTRAJAYA, Feb 13 — The government has set up a special committee to investigate allegations and related matters involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

“Once the investigation is completed, the findings will be reported back to the Cabinet for any follow-up action.

“This is part of our effort to ensure transparency and integrity in conducting the investigation,” said the MADANI government spokesman during his weekly press conference today.

Bloomberg had previously reported that Azam held millions of shares in a financial services company, based on corporate filings.

In response, the MACC chief stated at a press conference that his RM800,000 shareholding in the financial services company was acquired transparently and in accordance with proper procedures.

He insisted that the matter was not concealed and had been fully disclosed, and that the shares, purchased last year, were disposed of in the same year.
