CEBU CITY, Jan 28 — ASEAN's foreign ministers reiterated their collective resolve to pursue a Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led path towards a peaceful and lasting solution.

The pledge was made during the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), held in conjunction with the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) Retreat.

Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, who is also the Special Envoy of the ASEAN 2026 Chair on Myanmar, chaired the consultation.

She said that she had engaging discussions with her ASEAN colleagues during the consultation.

“We shared views on the implementation of the 5PC, discussed ways forward, and reaffirmed ASEAN’s collective resolve in finding a peaceful and lasting solution that is Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led,” Lazaro wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, GMA News Online reported that consultations on Myanmar’s 5PC were “good”, citing a Southeast Asian diplomat with knowledge of the discussions.

“It was all good. Everyone was supportive and cooperative, especially regarding Lazaro’s role as envoy,” the diplomat said.

Earlier this month, she held talks with Myanmar’s State Security and Peace Commission chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

“As chair of ASEAN, the Philippines will continue to build on the efforts of previous Special Envoys of the ASEAN chair on Myanmar in advancing the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus,” Lazaro said, according to media reports.
