JAIS denies bearing demolition costs of encroachers on PJS 4 Muslim cemetery land

SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has denied claims that it bore the cost of demolishing the Muslim cemetery in PJS 4, Petaling Jaya, as alleged in posts circulating on the Threads app since Monday (January 26).

Its director Dato' Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said they did not bear any costs related to the demolition and clearing of the encroached land.

All demolition costs were fully borne by the state government, in line with its responsibility in the matter.

“JAIS did not bear any costs for the demolition and clearing works of the land concerned,” he said in a statement today.

Shahzihan also denied allegations that zakat and wakaf funds were used to demolish and clear the land.

He added that the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) carries out its trust in managing and safeguarding the funds of the Muslim community in accordance with legal provisions and Syariah requirements.

“MAIS has a clear understanding of matters that fall under the responsibility of the state government,” Shahzihan said.

He also advised Muslims not to be influenced by baseless allegations circulating on social media and assured that MAIS would continue to ensure that the management of Muslim community funds is carried out transparently and ethically.

This is in line with the council's role as provided under Section 7 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003.

Earlier, a post on Threads alleged that encroachers on the Muslim cemetery land in PJS 4 had received replacement land compensation, and claimed that the demolition costs were borne by JAIS.

It sparked various reactions from social media users who demanded an explanation from the authorities.
