SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — The government has stepped up its preparedness for the northeast monsoon following a warning of continuous rain until Monday (December 8).

Berita Harian reported Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil as saying that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had briefed the Cabinet on the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) preparations for the monsoon season.

“The public is reminded to take note and make suitable preparations for the monsoon, especially over the next few days until Monday.

“The number of flood evacuees had dropped to 3,147 people, with four temporary relief centres (PPS) closed, leaving 49 PPS still operating,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Indonesia’s recent disasters, Fahmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contact President Prabowo Subianto today.

“This is to determine what assistance the government can offer. The Prime Minister will also extend condolences to the victims of the floods and landslides in Sumatra during the call,” he said.

Concerning proposals for a code of ethics for influencers, Fahmi said the government has not imposed licensing or regulatory rules.

“But incidents such as the inquest of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir saw official media restricted from reporting, while some non-accredited influencers were able to do so. We will study this, and I will invite experts for a discussion to understand their viewpoint,” he said.
