Socso: Family of water surge victim at Pintasan Saloma to receive benefits

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — The family of the victim of the water surge incident at Pintasan Saloma (Saloma Link) last Monday (November 17) is eligible to receive benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

It said the victim, K. Suresh, 37, who worked as a supervisor with contractor company Palladium Builders Sdn Bhd, was a contributor under the LINDUNG Pekerja Scheme under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), although his last contribution was made in April.

“Socso immediately contacted the employer and, through swift action, the deceased’s outstanding contributions from May to October 2025 were fully settled on November 18.

“This maintains the deceased’s status as an active contributor and ensures that his dependants are eligible to receive full protection from Socso,” Socso said in a statement today.

Following this, the deceased’s family: his wife, Shalini Devi A. Prupakaran, 31, and their six-year-old son, Pratezwaran Suresh, are eligible to receive the dependents’ benefit, amounting to RM2,655 per month, in addition to a lump sum of RM3,000 for funeral management.

In the 5.40pm incident, the victim was reported to have been swept away by a strong current while attempting to move his vehicle after noticing a water surge near the Pintasan Saloma.

At the time of the incident, Suresh was in the area with 12 others, including his workers, all of whom were successfully rescued by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department. His body was found four days later, about 45 kilometres from the spot where he was reported missing.

Socso conveyed its condolences over the incident and expressed hope that the deceased’s family will remain strong during this difficult time.

The organisation also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all claim processes proceed smoothly and said it will carry out the Ziarah Prihatin programme in the near future.

At the same time, employers are reminded to ensure their workers’ contributions are always up to date and free of arrears, especially for employees serving in high-risk environments.
