KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, had a “special relationship” with the Taiwanese female influencer who was found dead in a hotel room here recently.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigations revealed that Namewee had been with the victim when they were abroad until they arrived in Malaysia.

“So far, investigations have found that the suspect did indeed have a special relationship with the victim. We have also recorded statements from all individuals involved in the case,” he said during a press conference in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters today.

Fadil added that they are still awaiting the full post-mortem and toxicology reports on the victim, which are expected to take some time. The victim’s body has yet to be claimed by her family.

“There was an individual who tried to claim the body, but we could not allow it as there was no authorisation. Therefore, we urge anyone with information about the victim’s family to come forward and assist in the investigation,” he said.

Namewee has been remanded to assist in investigations into the death of the influencer, Hsieh Yun Hsin, 33.

According to news reports, the rapper’s remand was extended for another three days until Thursday (November 13), after his initial remand on Wednesday (November 5) ended yesterday.

Hsieh was found dead in the bathtub of a hotel room along Jalan Conlay on October 22.

The case, initially classified as sudden death, is now being investigated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
