KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — National para badminton ace Cheah Liek Hou once again showcased his mastery by clinching two titles at the Japan Para Badminton International 2025 in Shizuoka today.
The tournament at the Kusanagi Sports Complex Gymnasium saw the two-time Paralympic men’s singles SU5 (physical impairment) gold medallist capture his first title of the day. Living up to his top-seed billing, he defeated Taiwan’s Fang Jen-Yu 21-14, 19-21, 21-18 in 66 minutes.
The world number one was not done yet.
Returning to the court for the men’s doubles SU5 (physical impairment), Cheah teamed up with Mohamad Faris Ahmad Azri to pull off an upset over India’s top seeds Hardik Makkar and Ruthick Ragupathi, 23-21, 21-13, in 40 minutes, securing his second crown of the tournament.
Meanwhile, top-seeded wheelchair shuttler Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli also delivered an impressive performance, triumphing in the WH1 category by defeating home player Shoichiro Eguchi 21-13, 21-12.
His victory served as redemption following an earlier loss in the men’s doubles WH1-WH2 (wheelchair) final, where he and partner Noor Azwan Noorlan fell to home favourites Daiki Kajiwara and Keita Nishimura, 8-21, 14-21.
