SEKINCHAN, Nov 7 — Last night’s high-tide phenomenon caused an overflow at Pantai Parit Lima here, which eroded and damaged the embankment, said Sekinchan assemblyman Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

He added that repairs are underway, with two pumps installed to drain the water.

“The water level that was previously 3.3m to 3.4m has gone down to 2.9m, and the situation is under control.

“Initial investigations found a flaw in the original design, causing about 20m of the embankment to burst when battered by strong waves. The new design is being used to strengthen and upgrade the embankment,” he told Media Selangor.

Ng also said 35 families were affected while crops were destroyed due to seawater entering residential areas.

“Aid was immediately channelled with cooperation from the district office, the Village Security and Development Committee, village heads, and relevant agencies.

“Residents are advised to apply for the disaster fund with a police report. Zakat and Social Welfare Department (JKM) aid has been mobilised, while one temporary relief centre has been opened in Sekinchan,” he explained.

According to him, this is the first large-scale burst embankment incident in the area.

“Before this, there was only minor damage without critical water entry into the village. Residents are advised to be cautious and to move important items to elevated areas. The state government is committed to lowering victim’s risks and burdens,” Ng said.
